About SpotPrice
SpotPrice was started by a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who wanted a simple, honest way to check gold and silver prices.
Too many price sites are cluttered, confusing or hard to read. SpotPrice keeps things plain: big numbers, simple words and clear explanations, whether you're buying your first gram of gold or have been collecting for decades.
What we do
- Show live gold and silver spot prices per ounce, gram and kilo.
- Help you work out what your metal is worth with a free calculator.
- Show the best real price per ounce we can find for 1 oz bars, with who sells it.
- Show estimated prices for popular items and link you to dealers so you can compare.
- Explain the basics in short, plain-English guides.
How “Best price per ounce” works
- When this section is on, we check the real listed price of specific 1 oz bars every 2 hours (plain bullion bars from refiners like Valcambi, PAMP, Geiger and Asahi, plus the dealer's generic 1 oz bar) and show the lowest in-stock price for each metal, with the dealer and the time we checked.
- We only check dealers whose website rules allow it, using one polite request each time. Dealers like APMEX, JM Bullion, SD Bullion, Money Metals and Kitco don't allow automated price checks, so they're left out until they give us an approved price feed. The section only appears when we have prices we checked in the last 12 hours, and it lists which dealers were checked. “Best” means best among the dealers we check, not every dealer anywhere.
- The main price is the check/wire price for one bar. Card and PayPal prices are higher and shown next to it.
- Every price is compared with the live spot price. Anything below the metal's value or far above it is thrown out as a likely error.
- Prices older than 12 hours are never shown as current. If our check fails, the section says it's updating instead.
- Prices change fast and dealers set the final price at checkout, so always confirm the total on the dealer's site.
How we make money
SpotPrice is free. Some dealer links are, or may become, affiliate links: if you buy after clicking one, the dealer may pay us a commission, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never change which price is shown as lowest; that's sorted by price only. Details are in our disclosure.
What we don't do
- We don't sell metal ourselves (yet), and we don't hold your money.
- We don't give financial advice. Please read our disclosure.
