Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information is collected when you use SpotPrice (the "site"), and how it is used. We keep this simple: we do not ask you to create an account, and we do not sell your personal information.

Information we collect

• Information you send us. If you email us, we receive your email address and message, and use them only to reply.
• Settings saved on your device. The site stores small pieces of information in your browser (local storage), such as the last spot prices and your text-size choice. This stays on your device and is not sent to us.
• My Purchases. If you use the My Purchases page, what you enter (item, quantity, price paid, shipping, date, where you bought it and your notes) and a once-a-day reading of its total value are saved only in your browser's local storage on that device. It is never sent to us or anyone else, we cannot see it, and we cannot recover it. Clearing your browser data, using private browsing, or switching devices or browsers will remove it or leave it behind, so use "Export my data" to keep a backup. Exported files are saved to your device by your browser and are not uploaded anywhere. You can delete entries one by one on that page, or remove everything by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.
• Server logs. Our hosting provider may automatically record technical information such as your IP address, browser type, pages visited and time of visit, to run and protect the site.
• Price service. To show live prices, your browser requests data from gold-api.com. That service can see your IP address, as with any website you visit.
• Best prices. The “Best price per ounce” section is loaded from our own site, and the last copy is saved in your browser so it can be shown (clearly labeled with its time) when you're offline. Your browser doesn't contact the dealer until you tap a dealer link.
• News. The News page and the home-page headlines are loaded from our own site; your browser does not contact the publishers until you tap a headline. Headlines open the source's own site (MINING.COM, federalreserve.gov or bls.gov), and that site's own privacy policy and cookies then apply.

The SpotPrice iPhone app

The iPhone app works the same way as the site, with these details:

• No account, no tracking, no ads. The app does not show ads, does not use advertising identifiers, and does not include analytics.
• Stays on your iPhone. My Purchases, your price alerts and your settings are saved only in the app on your iPhone. Deleting the app deletes them.
• Price alerts. To check your alerts, the app (and iOS in the background) requests prices from gold-api.com. Your alert targets are not sent anywhere; the comparison happens on your iPhone, and notifications are created on your iPhone, not sent from a server.
• Daily price updates. The 3-times-a-day price notifications, your chosen times and metals, and the recent prices used to show the change are all kept on your iPhone. The notifications are scheduled on your iPhone by iOS, not sent from our server, so we don't receive a device token or anything else.
• Face ID or passcode lock. If you turn on the lock for My Purchases, iOS checks your face, fingerprint or passcode. The app only learns whether unlocking succeeded; it never receives your biometric data.
• News, best prices and links. Headlines and best prices are loaded from our site (getspotprice.com or getspotprice.netlify.app). Dealer and news links open in an in-app browser, where that site's own privacy policy and cookies apply.

Advertising

On the website (not in the iPhone app), we may show ads from Google AdSense or other ad networks. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings, and from many other vendors at aboutads.info. Where required by law (for example, for visitors in the European Economic Area or the UK), we will ask for your consent before using advertising cookies.

Affiliate links

Some links to dealers are, or may become, affiliate links (through networks such as Awin, Impact and FlexOffers). When you click one, the dealer or the affiliate network may set a cookie to record that you came from our site, so we can earn a commission if you buy. We do not receive your payment details or what you bought beyond what the network reports for commissions.

Visit counting

We count anonymous page visits to see how the site is used: how many visits each day, which pages are opened, which website sent people here, and phone versus computer. There are no cookies, no tracking across other sites, and no personal info stored. We never save your IP address or browser details; to count each visitor once a day we use a scrambled code that can't be traced back to you, and it's deleted the next day. The iPhone app doesn't count visits.

Your choices

• You can block or delete cookies and local storage in your browser settings. The site will still work.
• Depending on where you live (for example California, under the CCPA/CPRA, or the EU/UK, under the GDPR), you may have rights to access, delete or correct personal information, and to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information for targeted ads. Contact us to make a request.

Children

This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.

Links to other sites

Dealer and other websites we link to have their own privacy policies. We are not responsible for their practices.

Changes

We may update this policy. The date at the top shows the latest version.
